Mr. and Mrs. Lee's home was a beautiful 3-side brick house in a very nice neighborhood. Innovative Outdoors had already done extensive landscaping in the Lees' yard, creating an exotic setting with vibrant colors and unique plants. The Lee family was very happy with the landscaping, but they wanted to create an outdoor living area that would allow them to enjoy their backyard more.

Challenges

The initial stage of the overhaul involved tearing everything down on the backside of the house. Mr. Lee wanted to brick the back of the house to increase the value and visual appeal of the home. Aside from the brick, the Lees wanted a patio area covered by a pergola on the back deck that incorporated more of an outdoor living feel. In this patio, they wanted an outdoor fireplace, a grill, and an outdoor television with surround sound so they could enjoy being in their backyard. Once the right brick was chosen and built onto the back of the house, the next step was creating the patio are. Because we installed the brick, we were able to create slots in the brick, allowing the pergola joists to mount right into the house. The new patio is designed with a grand cedar pergola that mounts into a large stacked stone fireplace on one corner. Resting above the keystone on the fireplace, is a completely water/weatherproof 37" plasma television with satellite and in the other corner of the patio is a grill and burner, with cabinet doors, all mounted in a stacked stone counter. To complete the living area, stylish outdoor furniture rests on a smooth travertine tile floor. As you come out of the back deck sanctuary, you step down cascading flagstone stairs onto a stone walkway that wraps around the side of the house. Surrounding the patio are stone walled planting beds that add even more character to the scene. The final touch came during the final evening, when the outdoor lighting and the TV were both hooked up.

Results

Upon completion of the construction and landscaping, the back of the Lee home had been completely transformed. The Lee family now has a beautiful backyard patio that they will be able to use and enjoy more. As the night rolls around, the lighting really accents the structure perfectly from the outside, highlighting the grand stature of the columns and fireplace. And inside the patio, the smell of steaks on the grill might be the only reminder that you are in the backyard while watching a movie with a crystal clear picture and surround sound speakers.
